Skims, the brand of prolific socialite Kim Kardashian, is loved by many for its comfortable and close-fitting designs. It was founded when Kim was inspired to create her own shapewear line in 2019 and it has grown exponentially since. The New York Times has reported that it’s now worth $4 billion, reflecting a value increase of 800 million in the last year alone.
Over the years, the brand has not only flourished but dipped its toes into new markets such as swimwear and underwear. It now sells everything from socks to bikinis and there are plenty who believe that it will continue to expand and evolve.
One of the most recent developments from the brand has been the release of a new ‘Team USA,’ line to promote the 2024 Paris Olympics. On Wednesday the 26th of June, SKIMS unveiled the new line with a range of new loungewear, intimates, swim, and sleep products. The products were adorned with American flags, the Olympic logo, and the words “Team USA.”
The prices of the products vary but the cheapest item (‘the sport crew sock’) retails for $14 and the most expensive item (‘the terry paralympic unisex robe’) retails for $148. Adaptable and disability-friendly options (such as the ‘fits everybody paralympic boy short,’ and the ‘fits everybody adaptive paralympic scoop bralette,’) are also available and many are also available in multiple colour schemes. For those who prefer clothing options with a bit more stretch, support and breathability, the fan favourite “fits everybody,” range that Kim is known for is also seen in this collection as some of the items are labelled as “fits everybody.” What’s not to love?
If that’s not enough, SKIMS marketing for the collection contained some of America’s most promising athletes.
On the SKIMS Instagram account between the 24th and 27th of June, the collection was teased with a few patriotic photos and videos of Nick Mayhugh, Jessica Long, Gabby Thomas, Fred Kerley, Caeleb Dressel, and Sunisa Lee. The six athletes posed for the camera as they wrapped themselves with the American flag and balanced on a bright red SKIMS podium. The red, white, and blue designs that they wore perfectly showcased their American patriotism and gave us a glimpse into the designs before they were released.
This collaboration with Team USA is the third one that SKIMS has done, Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2021 being the first and Beijing’s Winter Olympics in 2022 being the second.
